Digi Products

Tuesday, May 20, 2014

I'm a full time traditional scrapbooker and a part time hybrid scrapbooker. Did you know this? You might not have. But believe me, I'm a sucker for some good digi products. Designer Digitals is having one of their quarterly sales. It's usually when I stock up on goodies. Here's what I bought this go around:

I look for things I can't easily make myself OR templates that can't quickly be turned into paper pages. I love Ali's clean and simple projects. I love her handwriting! I can do this with my own handwriting, but it's sooo many extra steps ;) So I opt to use Ali's!

And I'm excited to jump into some hybrid scrapbooking with these fun circle templates. I signed up for (yet another) class at Studio Calico. It's Shanna Noel's (my favorite) Beyond the Basics hybrid scrapbooking class. The digi kit for this is worth the price of the class IMO. I love Shanna's stuff so much!

But back to the Designer Digitals quarterly sale and oh so fun products. Get 'em while they're hot!

Dorm Life

Monday, May 19, 2014

It would seem I'm into double page layouts using 4x6 photos lately! This is the third one I've made in the last few weeks =)
This particular page is for the Art + Science right brained ideation challenge. I had to go through patterned paper to see what reminded me of a place or a space.

For me, that yellow polka dot reminded me of the bulletin board I painted for my dorm room. And then I found that teal floral and it pulled a lot of the colors together. I love the mix of patterns I got to use!
I designed these four little 2x3 cards in Silhouette using just fonts and icons. They're to represent the canvases I painted for this room and hung above my bed. Can you see them in the first horizontal photo above?
I also added tape around the edges. That's to remind you of the bulletin board I painted and the jumping off point for the page.
I made sure to capitalize on the negatives from the journaling spots and included them around the page.
I'm so excited to have these photos scrapbooked. They brought back some good memories from college. I made a page of my freshman dorm back when I was in college. I will have to take it out and snap some photos so you can see the difference!

Until then, Happy Monday! For me, it's a 2 day week =)

National Scrapbook Day 2014

Friday, May 16, 2014

Jennifer Wilson's NSD pages had me so inspired to use that fab SC NSD Mini kit! Here's what I came up with. I pretty much used the whole thing, with the exception of a few of the embellishments.
I've shared this on message boards and with my fellow SSers but I typically don't get to properly enjoy NSD. And that's because it's right around the same time as our biggest work event. This year I managed to squeeze in some scrapbooking on the day, but really I should have been working!

I've said it many times (4 times actually, as long as I've been working at the Consulate) but I've never scrapbooked about it before. And I really didn't want that wood veneer date to go to waste. So that's how I came up with the page
I wanted (and want to continue) to use project life cards on my pages. So I placed them around the page and tried to figure out how to incorporate them as photo mats. I knew from the beginning I was going to have to do a double page layout. It meant that was a lot of empty space. But I prefer white space to a busy over crowded canvas.
I think I used all but 2 of the SC NSD Stamp set. Love it when I get to do that! It makes me feel like it was a good purchase =)

I'm so happy with how this page came out. It was just fun to play around with pretty products, to see what came out.

I Heart Scrapbooking

Monday, May 12, 2014

Behold my latest creation! It just might be one of my favorites.
I've never made a page about scrapbooking, one of my absolute favorite things to do! I have dozens and dozens of pages about travel but non about this hobby. I made a mini book once that was kind of in the theme. But with the help of a Simple Scrapper Jumpstart video (No. 3 to all my fellow SS) and the NSD stamp set from Studio Calico, I had just the tools to do it.
I love the bottom right hand side of the page. It came together seamlessly. The top however, did not. And that black paper is a sign of me covering something up and hoping to get it right!!
I was so inspired by Nicole Reaves' Read to You layout. I was enchanted by those little books!! And so I made my own mini scrapbooks.

There was a lot of synthesis of ideas and products pulled from several places. I like that my brain makes connections that help me mesh them all together on the page.
And the Amy Tangerine stuff just makes this page fun! A few weeks back I made a big purchase from Scrapbook.com. I order from them rarely but they had all most of what I wanted in stock and on sale! So I couldn't pass it up.

Mother's Day Cards

Sunday, May 11, 2014

Happy Mother's Day to my Mama, my Grandma's and MT's mom too! I made a few cards to send to these lovely ladies. They combine printables, cut files, die cuts, heat embossed sentiments, watercolors, twine and enamel dots! They came together so quickly. Really Wilna's printables did all of the work =)

NSD 2014

Saturday, May 3, 2014

I'm excited I got to do some scrapping today, on this, oh so hallowed of days. This is the one weekend a year when I'm usually working. In fact, I should have gone into the office today. But I decided I would just do it tomorrow. I'm exhausted so apologies for the brevity of this post, but I wanted to share my pages somewhere!

All of these pages feature Simple Scrapper sketches. The first two are from the exact same sketch. I love doing that when I know I have something good. It doesn't bother me, especially since these pages will be going into different albums. I also machine stitched on all of them. I set up the machine this afternoon and just left it out. I wish I could leave it out permanently but that's not the case.

And with that, I fall in bed and go to sleep! Hope everyone had a fabulous NSD!
