Sketchbook Day 9

Monday, June 13, 2011

Back today with another Sketchbook 3 layout,
another from my trip to Istanbul,
and another Lawn Party page!

Confession I: This is my absolute favorite page that I've made in quite awhile.
Confession II: I really think I have a favorite Studio Calico kit now!

Just look at the gorgeous colors that were featured in the May kit. I love the seafoam greens and bright pinks mixed with with limey greens and soft pinks.

So this page is all about me, traveling alone.
That's how much I love to travel!
I'll go by myself if I have to =)

After reading this month's challenges for the Paperclipping Community, I knew I wanted to scrap this photo of me. And how hard it can be to get photos of yourself when you travel by yourself.

But back to the products! Loved these yellow thickers! And I'm happy that I actually used the resin flowers. I have quite a few from different brands and had yet to use them on anything.

But that's the beauty of a kit.
You want to use all of the beautiful projects, instead of just hoarding them.

Journaling Reads:

I travel by myself from time to time. And I know people may think that's daring or lonely or just plain dumb, but it's not going to stop me If I have the opportunity to go somewhere, I'm going to go. The lack of a little thing such as a travel buddy is not going to keep me from any once in a lifetime opportunity. Yup, it's harder to get photos of myself and the places I visit, but I make do.

And the irony of this visit is not lost on me. I get that it is a privilege for me, as a free independent female, to choose to visit any place on my own, let alone the former home of an imprisoned group of women. But that is the world we live in. and I feel incredibly blessed to live in this day and age.

Sketchbook Day 7

Saturday, May 14, 2011

I loved Day's 7 Sketch so much, I made 2 layouts!! I was especially inspired by April and Kelly's take's on the sketch.

April's layout was very simple and sweet and I think mine might be even simpler and none the less sweeter. The photos did all of the work in this one, the color choices one better.

There is literally nothing to this page but a strip of patterned paper, a strip of tape, letter stickers and a few mailing tags.

The title is a play on "Monkey See, Monkey Do" and "Now U see it, Now you don't" because Urijah was so confused about where his monkey backpack had gone!

And then we come to the requisite yearly Chucky E Cheese page. But again to be punny, I played with the title and came up with the Big Cheese.

Urijah looks so cute riding on Gpa's shoulders. And yes my Papa is big and Urijah very tiny, but there's no question of who's boss when the lil guy is around.

I also had the chance to play with this lovely Cosmo Cricket line. I think it's called Togetherness. What a perfect line for a page about family.

Oh, and a side note there's a lot of significance with the kite strings on this one :) I like to use them in my projects because I'm told the word "leija" is Finnish for kite (verified by Finn no less!) Hence my blog banner!

Sketchbook Day 6

Tuesday, May 10, 2011

I went a bit out of order this go around and made the Title page close to last. I wasn't really planning to make a title page in actuality, but then Sketch Day 6 came around and I couldn't resist.
Just look at all those beautiful faces! I love how they look all in black and white.

I jazzed up the background paper with some dimensional jewels. It was an exclusive pattern that came in Studio Calico's Candy Shoppe kit and was my absolute favorite. So I knew it was going to be used on a special page. What's more special than this lil guy?

I also used the back side of the SKU strip as a mini banner by cutting the edges and folding it to make it 3 dimensional, backing it with pop dots and then adding the thickers.

A sweet, simple and straight forward title page and one of my absolute faves!

Sketchbook Day 2 & 3

Thursday, April 21, 2011

Back with more KP Sketchbook Sketches!! :)
This first one is my favorite that I've done in awhile...and it's really very simple!
It was just a matter of some lines, a few photos, and the thought bubbles! And yeah, I took a few liberties calling it a convo but I'm not bothered. They're what literally popped into my head when I started thinking about these photos and the page.

This is hands down my favorite photo of my boyfriend and my nephew. He just looks so little next to him! And then the look he's giving him, it just makes me laugh!

The title letters are a foam Thicker and were originally an aqua color. But I altered them with some blue chalk in because I thought a darker title would work better on here.

So this next page...well, I like it.
But I'm not really in love with it.
It's one of those forced layouts where I should have just called it a day, but instead plowed forward on it anyhow.

It isn't half bad or anything, I actually like the silly puns. And of course my sweet boy is adorable!
I probably should have slept on it ;)

Sketchbook Day 1

Wednesday, April 6, 2011

Get ready for Sketchbook!
Here's my first page :)
It's pretty simple and straight forward.
Clean lines, bold colors and very little technique.
(I added Maya Mist splatters to contribute some red to the page)

I used a lot of Sassafras on this! I love the company and have a lot in my stash, but rarely actually use any of it. Happy that I rectified that last night. Their new Starters line of papers are awesome backgrounds because theirs a bit more to them than just a neutral color.

These a few photos of Urijah playing in my kitchen. For some reason the people who decorated my apartment building put mirrors in all of the kitchens. Odd, I know! But that means I get 2 views of 1 sweet little boy in each of these photos.

Urijah loves to play with the baby in the mirror.
Or just hang out and chill.
Or open up all the cabinets and try to crawl into them.
Or bang on the pots and pans.

I love having him around to play!
