Family Portraits

Friday, April 22, 2016

This was the last and final page I made during the [InkieQuill] [ScrapStream] this past weekend. It was totally fun and super simple to make!
I was inspired by the shirt Joyce aka Matt's mama (as if you couldn't tell!) was wearing. It was stripped navy and had these great white flowers across it. So I pulled out some navy scraps from my scrap drawer and a few red washi tapes and stuck them down to my background paper.
I cut out some white leaves and placed them behind the photos, curling towards the edges of my page. My title was cut with the Silhouette using the print and cut feature. Although it didn't cut out quite right (i.e. what I was seeing on my screen didn't match the end result) I still went with it.
I added a few blue and red buttons and brads and some silver mist just along the sides and was done! I love it when a pages comes together quickly and easily.

As if you couldn't already tell, I had so much fun playing alongside Adele during the ScrapStream. I can't wait for the next one, which is scheduled for iNSD! This year I'll actually be able to join in on some NSD fun!

From Paris to Today

Monday, November 2, 2015

Matt and I have traveled together dozens of times. But the first ever trip we took together was to Paris in 2009. We were living in London at the time, so it was a quick weekend getaway. It was his first visit, so we got in all of the highlights: the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, Notre Dame.

These few photos are pretty much the only ones we took. I was more intent on spending time with him than taking tons of photos. And I think that's totally ok sometimes! And I love these photos so much too, they feel very touristy and old school European holiday.
The story here is all about how far we've come in the seven years that we've been together. When we were in Paris in 2009, neither one of us had any clue what the future held or even when we'd next be seeing each other. It was a very uncertain time. Fast forward to today, when we definitely have much more security about our careers, lives and each other.
I used a Simple Scrapper sketch from the November collection as the starting point for this page. I love the look of a double page 8 1/2 x 11 and was so excited to see this sketch in the collection. For my fellow Simple Scrappers, this is sketch No. 276.
I recently purchased Ashli Oliver's The Softer Side class. I'm such a fan of Ashli's work and her amazing style. This page was my interpretation of her style, with the softer color scheme (all papers Gramercy Road from Gossamer Blue). I will definitely be incorporating more of her techniques into (or should it be onto....) my pages. Check it out if you haven't already!

On My Mind

Wednesday, January 28, 2015

Hiya! I'm excited to share one of my latest pages. This was the first page I made this year and it was so much fun to do.
I used a Simple Scrapper Story Starter (releasing in the February Spark Magazine) as the starting point for this page, which is all about the daily things that cross my mind. All of the questions I ask myself in a given day, all of the random thoughts milling around up there.
I picked an assortment of Studio Calico Project Life cards (looks like a lot came from Penny Arcade) and just went to town creating my own configuration on a sheet of Kraft cardstock.

I started with a few cards (the pink Ashley Goldberg abstract and Kraft To-do) and created my color scheme from there. It meant flipping through my 3x4 Journaling Card box and pulling from the pink, kraft, yellow and orange sections.
I wrote a lot about being an anxious introvert. We introverts tend to be thinkers, which can take anxiety up several notches. Night time, just before falling asleep, is the worst. Coincidentally, twilight or early evening is my favorite time to think. When the sun has set and all of the city lights are on, I love driving home and getting lost in my thoughts.
I'm not planning to do much pocket scrapping this year. But I'm excited to make more pages like this, featuring all of these gorgeous 3x4 journaling cards.

De-kitting all but the last several months of kits has helped me to not get caught up in trying to make certain things work (i.e. the whole kit together). I feel like I have permission to just use exactly what I want!

In February, I'm planning to share my scrap space and how it's organized. This may be the first layout I made this year, but I've been doing so much scrapbook organizing and planning. I literally went through everything in my stash (I mean eve-ry-thing) chose to keep only the things I loved. I'm excited to share!

Family Love

Saturday, August 23, 2014

It seems a little unfair that I'm posting my latest project when I have half a dozen other layouts I should share. But whatever this is current and I want to get in on the Paperclipping Official/Unofficial Online Crop! Here's a page I made using a Simple Scrapper sketch from a few months ago. My favorite part is "family" on the photos.

Digi Products

Tuesday, May 20, 2014

I'm a full time traditional scrapbooker and a part time hybrid scrapbooker. Did you know this? You might not have. But believe me, I'm a sucker for some good digi products. Designer Digitals is having one of their quarterly sales. It's usually when I stock up on goodies. Here's what I bought this go around:

I look for things I can't easily make myself OR templates that can't quickly be turned into paper pages. I love Ali's clean and simple projects. I love her handwriting! I can do this with my own handwriting, but it's sooo many extra steps ;) So I opt to use Ali's!

And I'm excited to jump into some hybrid scrapbooking with these fun circle templates. I signed up for (yet another) class at Studio Calico. It's Shanna Noel's (my favorite) Beyond the Basics hybrid scrapbooking class. The digi kit for this is worth the price of the class IMO. I love Shanna's stuff so much!

But back to the Designer Digitals quarterly sale and oh so fun products. Get 'em while they're hot!

Blessed are the Brave

Monday, January 20, 2014

Hey there!! I feel like I haven't been updating as much this year. It's probably true. But I'm still creating and planning and also printing out photos for my Project Life. I seem to be focusing a lot of energy on the latter. Uploading photos, editing, printing them the appropriate sizes. At this point, I'm just slipping things in pockets, so I can go back to have fun and embellish later. We'll see if that strategy works. I'm still trying to figure this whole Project Life thing out! But I digress....

I'm also still loving being a part of the Simple Scrapper community. Jennifer debuted a new Jumpstarts concept this year. It's exactly what you think it is, in that they are videos that are meant to jumpstart your creativity or help jog your memory. This page is a direct result of that inaugural video. Part of the challenge was to document a time when you had courage. For me, that was almost too easy. The bravest thing I ever did was to move to London after college. More on that in just a bit.
Before I talk about the idea for the page, I wanted to talk about the design. I have to say, it has me pretty excited!

I decided to create my own counterfeit kit this month and I used the January Hip Kit Club as my inspiration. I've had this gorgeous Amy Tangerine print in my stash, but I've almost been too intimidated by its beauty to actually use it. Choosing that kit forced me to reconsider it and I'm so glad that it actually made it into the scrapbook!

It's a really spectacular piece and I wanted to use as much of it as I could. But I ended up doing something way different with it. I sliced it down the middle and then pieced it back together. I decided to hide my journaling and did this by gluing the photo strip onto a folded piece. It unfolds to show all of my journaling.
But that's not all folks! I turned the other side into a flap as well. But this covered up an enlarged photo.

From the get go, I knew I wanted to use a line of black and white photos along the side. But it wasn't until I was choosing photos (and after I printed a strip that just didn't work with this page) that I decided to throw in the enlarged print of me in front of Big Ben.
This is what the layout looks like when its all unfolded. (And I have no idea why all of the color got sucked out of this photo!!) The gray polka dot is the B side to the horizontal stripe.
And what it looks like when the photo strip is folded down. Which is how I printed my photos to begin with, on one 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of photo paper.
The majority of the embellishing went on this top flap. I used the Cut & Paste sticker book, wood veneer alphas, silver glitter Thickers, those awesome Printshop word stickers and just a few drops of gray ink to embellish. All of which I pulled for my counterfeit January Hip Kit Club kit.

I think what I love most about this page is that it reminds me of a file folder. Given my love for all thing office supplies, that makes me ridiculously happy.
But back to the Jumpstarts and this whole concept of courage. My journaling reads:

Blessed are the brave for they will have adventuresThis was by far and away the adventure of a lifetime. Looking back, I really have no idea how/why I threw myself into that situation headfirst, no fear and no trepidation. It's so not me, typically.

After college I made up my mind to move to London. So I figured out how to do it and I just went. I didn't know anyone there. I had never met any of the 5 people I was going to be living with. I had only been to London one other time so I most definitely didn't know the city. If anything went wrong, I was at least 24 hours away from anyone familiar who could rush to my rescue.

Writing all that out makes me wonder why I signed up in the first place. But going back through that list with hindsight, I know I had nothing to worry about. I may not have known anyone when I got there. But by the end, I had dozens of people I would consider my friends. I may not have met my 5 flat mates before, but they became the best friends I've ever had, my true & honest soul mates. I didn't know the city at the beginning, but I learned as much about it as I could. It's a city you continue learning about. And every time I go back, I learn something new!

Moving to London was the bravest thing I've ever had to do and the best decision I ever made. And it never would have happened if I hadn't plucked up the courage to simply pack a bag, get on the plane and go.

See what I mean guys, I'm having so much fun being part of this new community. I'm loving all of the inspiration and the page ideas. I never would have thought to make this page otherwise! It's now the unofficial title page to my album. And something just darn pretty to look at!

December Project Life

Sunday, January 5, 2014

Here it is in all its glory, my complete December album. I didn't do this daily, instead I printed photos in batches and powered through with embellishing once we got back from Ohio. It was a lot of work but I love that its done.

I shot a (not so quick) video of myself flipping through the pages and talking about the design and other things. And if you're just interested in the photos, those are below. It's really photo heavy so I'll warn you in advance.

New products used: Blue Note Project Life Kit, Let your Heart be Light Cut, Lawn Fawn badges, Life Love Paper Printables, Knock Knock Roller Stamp, Webster's Pages/Allison Kreft 6x6 Paper Pad
