2015 Reading List

Thursday, September 10, 2015

I admit it. I overthink this whole pocket page thing. Every. Single. Time! I don't find them to be simple or quick. And I think it's because I scrapbook because I love the design aspect of it. I love pushing paper around, cutting and pasting, tweaking the details. And you're just so much more confined when you're working with divided page protectors. Which may be great for you, but isn't so great for me.

Never the less, I still think they totally fit my purpose from time to time. Like this month, as I was using the September Story Starter from Simple Scrapper

If you haven't already figured it out, this month's theme is all about reading. One of my absolute favorite things to do! The first part of this year, I wasn't reading near as much as I wanted to. But I've been reading up a story lately. Even since making this page in August, I've finished 4 more books! I'll print images of those and neatly tuck them into the backside of this page protector.
I only decorated two little journaling cards. The title card, with it's miniature lil book. And the journaling card with just a few scribbled thoughts. You would think that meant I was super quick about it! But alas, just working on those two little cards took roughly an hour.
Oh, I also stamped on vellum and embossed with white powder. I love this technique. It's so quick to do and I love the bit of texture it adds to the page. Also, playing with opacity is kind of my jam.
Pocket pages and I, well we have this whole love/hate thing going on. I think they work best when I keep it simple. Lots of photos + just a few decorative cards seems to be my sweet spot.

Do you get inspiration from mood boards? I definitely do! I blogged about the September Scrapbook Circle mood board over on their blog. Head over there to see what inspired this page!
I LOVE how this turned out and I think a lot of it has to do with the story here. Also, those wee chipboard birdies are rocking my socks today. I don't often use printed chipboard but these two were just too cute to pass up.
I also love any layout where I mix lots of patterns. They seem to pack a bigger punch! And the papers in the Hello Hello kit were just so luscious! Usually my go-to neutrals are black and white. But there was a lot of brown in this kit and I completely embraced it.

Thanks so much for stopping by today! And if you're in the USA, I hope you're having a relaxing Labour Day!

ALSO, I almost forgot to mention that it's the last day to get 30% off of your next Scrapbook Circle order. Use this link and enter  the code TAKE30 at check out. Happy shopping!

The latest Scrapbook Circle kit, Hello Hello, is available and I totally loved creating with it! The colors are just so good, you guys. Like soooo good! I love good black and whites paired with teals, yellows and grays. In true Jamie fashion, I pulled out all of the stuff in just those colors and here's what I came up with:
Tessa challenged me to create a layout with speech bubbles. I couldn't think of a better icon to use on a page about my favorite podcasts. Lately I'm loving Being Boss & Art for your Ear. And of course I love any podcast that let's me get in on the action. I'm looking at you Paperclipping Roundtable! The screenshot for PRT is from one of the episodes I was on.

The page design is based off of the SBC sketch from last month. I loved it so much but didn't get the chance to use it. So happy it made it work this month.
Head over to the Scrapbook Circle to see more ideas using the Hello Hello kit. Be sure to snap it up if you haven't already. The add-on this month is already sold out!
