Best Great Wall Memory

Saturday, January 26, 2013

Hiya! Sharing a Shimelle sketch page today. I got to use an enlarged print with this one. It was my first time using my large format at home printer. Over Christmas, I got a Pixma iX6520 for super cheap. I like it so far, but learned that I need to print on glossy paper vs matte.

I also made this page for Simon Says Stamps "what are you known for" challenge.

Here's how it's my style:

I love to mix pattern paper.
And also different size prints.

Almost all of my pages have some kind of mist.
For this one I used a mask and a mix of brown & gold ink.

Lately, I've been using a ton of metallic. Love these as neutrals.
And speaking of neutrals, gray is undoubtedly my favorite neutral these days.
I also print my journaling on vellum a ton.

But I think the biggest component of my "style" is that I use color in my pages. Lots of color! And I pick my color choices based on my photos.

I love this page and it's story. It was an amazing experience in and of itself to visit the Great Wall. But for it to then start snowing! That just made it magical.

Here's a video I took when it started. I heard that a high school classmate used it in her middle school classroom. And that the kids thought it was very cool. =) Maybe I inspired one of them to travel the world!

Bachelorette Mini

Sunday, January 13, 2013

Morning! I'm up bright & early today because someone's phone kept buzzing for unknown reasons. It's somewhat close to the time I usually wake up so here I am, up and blogging at 6am on a Sunday =)

I have the winner of last week's RAK for you all, but first I wanted to share this mini book I put together for Kimberly.

Did I tell yall I'm going to be a bridesmaid? First time in life! I'm excited but curious to see what this whole experience is going to be like.

Well, now that I think about it, it's already started. Tara, Susie & I threw Kim a weekend long party in the Hill Country for her bachelorette. Ten girls spending the night in an adorable farmhouse, literally in the middle of nowhere. It was a blast!

We also did a bit of wine touring in the local area. But for me, the silliness that went down in the evenings, the talking, the laughing, the relaxing and watching movies. That for me was the best part.

I put together this 6x6 mini book with just a few supplies: green and purple cardstocks (Kim's colors are green and purple, and handily fit with the wine tour theme), a package of purple flowers, pearl trim, purple lace trim, washi tapes in purple & green, and a package of Jolee's with a wine theme.

I tucked into my stamp & Thicker stash, and embellished with a button or two. And of course, turned to my punches more than once for a circle or a bow.

It took me some time to get it all together. And I remembered why I don't make mini books that much any more -- they take so long & I start to lose interest and zeal for the project. But I always love seeing them all put together. Scroll through for a quick recap of our girls weekend. I had a blast with these lovelies. Can't wait until February 16!

Oh, one more thing. I have to note that I did catch the misspelling in the title page. Working to fix it now!

And of course I didn't forget about the RAK winner! According to random.org it's commenter number 3. That would be you SamSam! I'm e-mailing you know for your address, so I can get these goodies off to you. If you haven't seen the e-mail, then please e-mail me at paperheart[dot]project[at]gmail[dot]com.

Queen Card

Friday, November 9, 2012

Happy Birthday Mrs. T!

It's MT's mama's birthday today. So I made her a card for him to send. I used an old Simon Says Stamp card kit that I hadn't touched (I know!!) and made it a bit shabby chic. It's not my usual style, but I still liked how the card turned out.

I gravitated to the crown patterned paper and a gray/pink/white/cream color scheme. And just layered some elements on top of a doily, before paper clipping (and also adhering them) to the top of the card.

The dimension is what makes this card for me. I only glued the one corner together, the rest I left to hang loose a bit.

I printed the sentiment out on vellum, bordered punched the bottom and washi taped it to the card. And for some extra texture, I wrapped baker's twine around the card and finished it off with a bow.

Friday, June 15, 2012

This page has to be my favorite of the bunch. Well my favorite of this latest batch. It's funny that both of my favorite Italy pages are of me and my Mama.

(BTW, this layout is the other one and also one of the most favorite pages I've ever done.)

She's just so cute & lil! (If anyone gets that Parks & Rec reference high five!) I loved the colors in these photos and wanted to highlight all of the glorious tones and shades as well as make that blue pop!

SC CHAllenges: Pink Cards

Monday, January 30, 2012

From white pages to pink cards! Back this morning to share 2 cards I made for the Studio Calico CHAllenges.

The first is for Dawn's Diecut Washi challenge. I fittingly made a card using some of her Papertrey Ink products, the Signature Series: Cupcakes.

It's a tiny little valentine-esque card that will probably make its way to Japan this year =)

And a second pink card for MT's best friend and his wife. After a long and difficult process, they're going to have a baby! They've just found out that they're having a little girl.

J is such a dude bro, I don't know how's he going to handle it. I couldn't help but create something frilly and girly to send his way.

I used Susan's 4 Punch card challenge to create this pink masterpiece. There are 2 scallop border punches, the jewel border punch, circle punch and heart punch used in this design.

Thanks yall for stopping by! And don't forget to comment on this post for a chance to win a RAK!

Dover Pages Complete!

Friday, August 12, 2011

The Dover section of my England Mini is now complete.
Light applause all around =)

No but seriously, I'm so happy to have this album at least started.
I haven't counted and really don't want to know, how many photos from my year in London, that have yet to be scrapbooked. (I'm guessing around 3-4,000...)
I'll get to them when I can get to them.
But believe me when I say, I sure am happy when I do!
This album is from Making Memories and I thought it was perfect for my random trampings about England. And below are all of the pages I made from just one of several day trips that we made. It's going to be a nice chunky album!

These last are a few of the newest pages.
I took this one and only photo of the reputed white cliffs of Dover. I have no idea where I read that page, but for some reason it stuck with me.

I wanted to play with texture on this page, so I used my border punches and several sheets and shades of white cardstock.

This last page, I played with fun citrus-y colors and some Studio Calico stickers. That green polka dot might be one of my most favorite papers, it's just such a great shade of green!

And just like that, it's done! Well, at least the portion from Dover is, and I'm very happy about that.
