OLW 2014

I picked a word. Or maybe it picked me. I don't really know. I don't usually pick words because I never stick with them. But this one just wouldn't leave my mind once I thought of it, and I figure its a good point of focus for my year.

This year my one little word is open.
I had fun making this page using a Simple Scrappers sketch and the Studio Calico Antiquary kit that I picked up for cheap on the 2Peas For Sale or Trade Board.

I just joined Simple Scrappers and I'm so excited about it. I took Jennifer's Art + Science class at BPC and just loved her organized teaching style. She has me excited to play this year. You might just
consider joining in.

Oh and if you're wondering about my December album, I decided I want to film a quick video talking through the pages. So much easier than writing it all out. Look for that in the next few days!

Happy New Year all! I hope you had a lovely NYE. Mine was a quiet night with an absolutely amazing dinner. MT and I got all dressed up and ate ourselves into a coma. We took some great photos...that I haven't even uploaded to my computer yet. But I'll get to them eventually.

Meanwhile, I've been crafting up a storm but haven't been able to finish anything until today. My December album, yeah that's done. It's in the book! I'm in the process of editing all those photos for the blog. But in the meantime, I wanted to share a page I made today. I came up with this idea just yesterday. And I love how it came out!
If you don't know Gilmore Girls, then you don't know that Lorelai Gilmore is enamored with snow. We share this. Growing up in Texas, I haven't had much opportunity to see it. So anytime I do, it's a big deal. Matt snapped these photos of me when we were at his parents in Ohio last week.
That fabulous blue hat (got it for Christmas this year) really makes these photos pop! So blue is where I took this page. I pulled out blue and silver stuff and used paint, paper, glitter tape, glitter and a doily to back the Silhouette cut I created.

I'm fabulously happy with my first page of the year. It's really and came together so quickly. Just love it when that happens, don't you?

cheers & besos,

Top 13 in 2013

Sunday, December 29, 2013

This, I have to say, is one of my favorite posts of the year. I love going back through my pages, looking back at all I've created and accomplished. (Here's a peak at 2010, 2011 & 2012 if you're interested.)

I learned a lot about my personal style this year. More so than I have any other year.

I now know:
  • I like to scrap photos in a variety of sizes.
  • Texture and dimension are a few of my staples
  • Transparency is something I love to play with
  • Metallics add drama and glamour to everything
  • Can't scrap without my Silhouette
  • Or edit photos without the help of RadLab
  • Adding just a touch of black & white to any page adds instant graphic appeal (and continuity to my pages...)
Which for me is huge! I've been scrapbooking for 16 years now. It's taken me this long to find all this out about myself and my crafting. It's helping me create better pages. And more of the kind I love.

So without further adieu, here are my 13 most favorite creations from 2013. (Click each photo to see that page's blogpost)

If I don't get back here before, happy new year! See you in 2014 =)

cheers & besos,
