Thank you to everyone who hopped along this weekend.
Yall totally made my day and my birthday so special!!

cheers & besos,

Hello 28

I had the best 28th birthday this year. Thank you all so much for celebrating and hopping with me! I'll shortly be announcing the winner of the hop but wanted to quickly share a quick recap page I made about my weekend.

I used the Central High kit along with the Road Show & Style Guide add-ons. I wanted to make a grid and to play off the idea of a polaroid, so I faked it with instagram photos and strips of the off white cardstock.

I edged all of the white "labels" with different colored ink and wrote a quick snippet about each photo.

Then I added stamped tabs and little bits and pieces from the kits. I LOVE using sequins, especially on this page about my birthday. It gives it a confetti feel.

And just like that, my birthday is over for another year. Until 2013 and the dreaded 2-9....

cheers & besos,

So on to my portion of the blog hop....

Just a lil about me

My name is Jamie Leija and I just turned 28 yesterday :) [ALSO, THIS IS MY 400TH BLOG POST!!!] I'm a diehard scrapbooker and card maker. I also just became a small business owner, in the sense that I launched my Etsy card store earlier this week!! Beyond paper crafting, my absolute favorite thing to do in the world is travel. I've been to 25+ countries and always devising ways to travel to more. I have a sweet boyfriend and the most adorable nephew, completely rad parents and an Irish twin brother! That's a little about me.

My 28 Project

This year I decided to do a 28 things page. I captured 28 facts about me at 28; where I live, what I do, what my favorites are. I'm excited to do this again next year to see if any of them have changed.

I had fun playing with products on this page, basically I heaped some beautiful on a layout. The color scheme came from the two Amy Tangerine yo-yo's and spiraled from there. I threw in some Kelly Purkey stamps, Crate Paper Story Teller stickers, Mister Huey, neon tape, Thickers, stickers, jewels and almost as an after thought, my picture. The colors went so well with the scarf I nearly covered up ;)

Who's next? And also the order in case you get lost:

It's my BIRTHDAY

It's my birthday! Today I'm 28. Late late twenties, eek!! But I'm excited! I've decided to not think about getting older, but instead focus on the privilege of reaching this new age.

I scrapped this photo of me blowing out the candle on my cake last year at dinner. It was a nice low key birthday with friends. It was also my golden birthday. You know, 27 on the 27th and all that.

27 was a great year for me. I settled into my career, I got to reconnect with so many of my amazing friends and I traveled to some new fun places. Nothing major or life changing, but definitely lots of of good times.

For this page, I used my Studio Calico Road Show add-on along with the Central High main kit. And really just went for a primary color scheme. Nothing new or revolutionary, but I like how it turned out! I adored all of the little bits and baubs in this kit and had fun splashing them around the page.

28, I have some plans for you! Starting tomorrow first thing :) Check back to see the 28 Blog Hop!

cheers & besos,

Cards by Jamie Leija

Wednesday, September 26, 2012

I did it! I'm now officially a small business owner! Today I launched paperheARTproject on Etsy.

I think it's important to tell the people you love, just that. You love them. For me, it's easiest to send a card. Whether it's "thank you", or I'm "just thinking about you", or even "Happy Birthday!" everyone loves to be remembered.

I decided to start a small card company to create beautifully handmade creations for you to share with loved ones.

But this is a card company with a one for one concept. For every card you buy, I'll donate a card to one of two great organizations: Cards for Soldiers or Operation Write Home. The people there package up and send blank cards to troops deployed overseas. For the troops to then use and mail home to their families. I'm all for helping others, and this is a great way for me to do it!

As an act of faith for this little venture, I'm sending a batch of cards to Cards for Soldiers today. It's been awhile since I've sent them anything. It was definitely time.

If you wouldn't mind, pop over, take a look and tell your friends :) I'd totally appreciate it.

Travel Tips: Foot Equity

Sunday, September 23, 2012

I consider myself an expert in only one thing, traveling. I've been doing it for so long; logged so many hours of foot travel, train travel, plane travel; seen so many places. It's one thing I'm really really good at. And obviously something I love to do and then scrapbook about later!

So I've decided to start a monthly Travel Tips post here on the blog.

I've been pushing myself to get creative and synthesize some of the commonalities across my trips and that's where the idea for this layout came from.

So much of my traveling has been done on foot. I started thinking about this idea of foot equity. How we can only take so many steps in a day until we're too tired or sore to take another one and it still be enjoyable. As you're traveling, you have to be choosy about what you see and also more practically which shoes to wear.

Personally, I'd opt not to walk around a museum. I'd rather walk around the city I'm visiting, see the sights & the local architecture and of course people watch. You only have so many steps in you before you reach the point when your feet (and back!) are all you're thinking about. And the experience ceases to be enjoyable. I've hit that point many times. And that's the signal to find the nearest bar or restaurant and relax for awhile.

For this page, I used the Studio Calico's Style Guide Central High add-on. (Pssst...it's still available so you might want to check it out!) I love the bright colors and the great mix of patterns.

I wanted to create an angle and do something with triangles, since the kit came with some great stamps. I've seen a few pages lately, that have this kind of put together pattern, so I took a stab at it.

The September Layout a Week (LOAW) was also a jumping off point for the page. I used Prompt #2 and included some metal and heat embossed the triangles and the pink hexagon.

I went looking for pictures of my feet to feature on this page about foot equity. I don't take them often or on every trip. But I'm happy I've taken these few.

The top photo is of me and the boys in Prague. I loved that grate. It was so perfectly Czech I had to snap the shot.

The middle is of my and Kori's hiking shoes. Yeah, we were completely underdressed. Those are the shoes we wore on a hike in the foothills of the Atlas Mountains in Morocco.

The bottom is a recent one I took with Sarah & Andy at Enoshima in Japan. I loved the bright yellow paint!

Journaling Reads: "The most important thing I can tell you about traveling, is that you must wear comfortable shoes. Believe me, I have suffered the consequences. Nearly all of my traveling has been done on foot, exploring the nooks and crannies of various cities across the world. Your back will hurt, your feet may ache and any seat will be a haven. Despite all that, I can promise you this. Every step in the wrong direction will become an adventure. Every blister, soon forgotten. Worthy is the explorer, who's feet bear the marks of travel."

TBT: Eighteenth Birthday

Thursday, September 20, 2012

Well good evening :) It's not very often I post this late so forgive my tardiness.

It's also Throw Back Thursday! For this week's post I thought I'd share an old page of mine. One that hasn't yet met this blog or you, dear blog readers.

This layout is circa 2004! It's of course a page about my 18th birthday (2002), but it was only a bit ago that I realized, "holy cow that was 10 years ago!!" Which I think make it's even more perfect for today's post.

Some people hate looking back at their old layouts, since their style has changed so much. Nearly 10 years later, I still really like the look of this page. I like the contrasting colors and even think the red photo mats look sweet.

I had fun with an entire Jolee's (remember those) package of little Japanese things. And I included ephemera on the page: the business card of the restaurant (that I'm not even sure is still open) and a pair of clean chopsticks from that night.

What about you? Has your style changed evolved the longer you've scrapbooked? I'd love to know!

Central High Cards

Wednesday, September 19, 2012

Did you hear the news? Studio Calico started a Card kit! I decided to subscribe sight unseen to find out what it's all about.

The kit arrived last week and my initial thoughts are that the kit doesn't have enough stuff! Especially for the price. I briefly subscribed to Simon Says Stamps card kit and those things were bursting with product AND at a lower price point. But I'll give this one a shot for a few more months.

The Central High kit had some great colors and I wanted to embrace as many as I could with this first card. I used the mistable thickers and the Lawn Fawn stamps that came with the kit. Then I wanted to use some of the great yellows and oranges, along with the stamps for the second. I loved how the stamps looked all lined up so I made a little pattern that I repeated in different colored inks. The final card was a patchwork of left overs from the other cards.

I also have to mention the Martha Stewart "Happy Birthday" punch I used over and over again. It's that good. You should check it out! And it's even on sale at Joann's ;) :)

 cheers & besos,

Random Love

Sunday, September 16, 2012

For the love of random! I either have to have everything the same or nothing the same. It's one of my weird little quirks that applies even to my scrapbooking!

I love having a mixed bag of pages in my scrapbooks. I think it makes it more fun! The first time I tired this was for Urijah's 1 Album. I loved it so much I've started doing it in all of my albums.

Japan got the same treatment. Here they are, in all their random glory!

Also, here are all the layouts in case you can't see the video. This is the order they're in in my scrapbooks. If you follow this blog regularly you'll realize I don't scrap anything in chronological order. Not even close! I scrap what moves me, nothing more, nothing less =)
