Leaving Home

Sunday, August 15, 2010

It's here, the time has finally come. I get to, for the third time it seems, leave home to strike out on my own.

I left home to move to Austin for undergrad.
I left home to move to London for an internship.
And now, I'm leaving home to move to Houston for my first post-grad job.

I'm beyond excited that this time has come, it's been a year and a half in the making. But I will miss my parent's home. I'll miss them and their silliness, our quiet times, and just being able to talk to them face to face.

I'll miss my dogs. They were the best part of any day and were my constant companions through all of the trials of the previous months and years. As big of pains as they can be, I will miss their wagging tails and seemingly smiling little faces.

Yesterday, as I packed up my stuff, loaded it in my car and drove away, I had to snap some photos. It's atypical of the cliched "getting smaller in my rearview mirror" sentiment, because I had to back up out of the driveway. I got to see full on, my family home get smaller and further away. And it made this whole new beginning bittersweet.

Note on the Photos: I applied texture overlies to give them a vintage feel. They're from Rhonna Farrer's Vintage Photo 2 Tool Kit.
